Start learning Quran by checking your reading level, choosing one foundation skill and practising it with feedback. Use a sequence of skill milestones instead of a fixed twelve-month promise.
If you do not recognize Arabic letters

If you can read but feel uncertain
Read a short passage that you have not memorized. Ask the tutor to identify a small number of recurring errors. You may need selected foundation work or focused Tajweed correction, rather than restarting an entire beginner course.
Build a manageable first week
Choose a repeatable practice period and one agreed exercise. Keep the same book or page reference between lessons. If a sound is unclear, mark it and ask for feedback; avoid repeatedly rehearsing a guess. The amount of practice should fit your energy and commitments.
Check progress with a fresh example
After guided practice, try another example containing the same skill. Revisit it at the next class. Can you read it with fewer prompts? This gives more useful information than only counting completed pages.
Keep reading and memorization goals distinct
Learning to read from a page and reciting a memorized passage are different skills. If memorization is a goal, discuss how new material, recent revision and older revision will fit into the plan. Do not increase the load just to match someone else’s timeline.
